Each year we are asked to become more conscious of and more involved in the Mission Activity of the Catholic Church in the world through the Mission Co-op Program of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
The weekend of Aug. 13-14, we are blessed to welcome Ted Miles, Executive Director for Maryknoll Lay Missioners, to our parish. He will join us during our Masses to share his mission experience as part of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Missionary Cooperation Plan 2022. The second collection will be taken to support Maryknoll Lay Missioners.
Maryknoll Lay Missioners is one of the largest U.S. Catholic organizations sending laypeople into global mission. Over the past four and a half decades, they have prepared and sent more than 700 missioners who have accompanied people experiencing poverty and marginalization around the world.
Your donations will allow Maryknoll Lay Missioners to prepare and sustain laypeople in global mission and to help build a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world. This once-a-year opportunity is a wonderful way for all of us to participate in the ongoing global mission to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth!
To learn more or to make a contribution, please visit www.mklm.org. Envelopes are also in the pews. Please make checks payable to “St. Luke Church.” Your kind welcome and generous support is most appreciated.

After an exciting and fulfilling season of being back in our choir loft and filling our 10:30 am Sunday Mass with ‘the sounds of music,’ the Lightshine Choir will be taking its usual summer break, to return in late September. New members are always welcome, especially as we gear up for a new and exciting season starting this fall. Please contact Justin Senneff at senneffj@yahoo.com.
St. Luke Catholic Community will offer an eight-week Bereavement Support Program for those who have lost someone dear. The program is open to all faiths and is non-threatening, caring and very loving toward those who have suffered a loss. The 2-hour sessions will begin Thursday, Sept. 8, and continue weekly through Oct. 27.
Sessions will begin at 7:00 pm and be held in the Parish Resource Center (located in the Rectory). The only donation involved is $14.00 for the workbook. If this is a hardship for you, please notify the Pastoral Office at (626) 291-5900. Call the office to make a reservation or for additional information.
The St. Luke Faith Formation Program is looking for parishioners who are enthusiastic about sharing the Good News in active and insightful ways to our youth. If you feel the calling to lead our Confirmation candidates through their sacramental journey, please contact Luis Valdez, Confirmation Coordinator, at luis@stluketemplecity.org for more information or to schedule a meeting.
St. Luke Parish welcomes new members into the Catholic Church as well as those who need to complete their Initiation Sacraments. This is done through a process of education, faith sharing, and rituals known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This process includes several Rites which take place within the context of the Mass. Gatherings are provided to encourage conversion and an awakening of faith as we study the Gospel in light of Catholic tradition and dogma.
If you or anyone you know is interested in taking this journey with us to the Easter sacraments, please call the Pastoral Office at (626) 291-5900 for more information. We look forward to meeting with you and taking this faith walk together!
Did you know that 1 in every 5 parish needs financial assistance, and 1 in every 4 Catholic schools needs critical funds? The Together in Mission Annual Appeal provides essential faith-based and educational funding to struggling parishes and schools throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. As one Catholic community of faith, let us pray and reflect on how we can continue to help parishes in need.
We are still approximately $15,000 shy of our 2022 goal. Please prayerfully consider sharing the abundant gifts that God has shared with each of us.
This year there are four ways to give:
1) Complete the pledge form (in the pews) and drop it in the collection basket or mail/drop off to the Pastoral Office;
2) Scan the QR Code on the pledge envelope to make an electronic gift;
3) You may also make a gift by texting ‘Believe’ to 213-397-0682;
4) You may visit togetherinmission.org to make an online donation.
Please make checks payable to “Together in Mission.”
Together, let’s make a difference for our schools and parishes.
