Dear St. Luke Parishioners, Reflections on Stewardship Together, we are keepers of our parish. Will you accept God’s invitation? As I reflected on the meaning of stewardship for this letter, I must admit, I had to look up the definition. I discovered that Jesus requires and commands each of us to o er our me, talent and treasure so we can continue building and maintaining His Church. Jesus’ intention is not to burden us, but invites us to share the many gifts we’ve received with His Church and with each other. By doing so, we become contributing and participating members of His Holy Family. A few years ago, I brie y considered leaving St. Luke for another parish. I felt disconnected and thought a ending another parish would be the answer. This all changed a er Mass one Sunday morning, when Virginia Tullius, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Conference here at St. Luke, invited me to a end one of their meetings. I first thought there is no way I’m going and besides, I don’t have the me — who does these days? However, a er giving it some thought, I decided maybe I should try and become more involved with the parish. I’ve been loafing in God’s vineyard far too long and I should start laboring a little for all of his blessings he’s provided me. So I finally did a end a meeting, which led me to become an active member in the St. Vincent de Paul Conference. I didn’t realize it at the me, but this was my first step toward true stewardship. Although I’d been contributing to the collection each Sunday, I was not contributing any me or talent. By accepting Virginia’s invitation, opportunities began to present themselves and I started to become more involved in many different parish activities. I finally found the connection I was seeking because I was not just sharing treasure, but now sharing my me and talent with St. Luke Church and its parishioners. This allowed me to recognize there is no need to go elsewhere because St. Luke is a very vibrant parish full of wonderful, holy and amazing people. I have made more friends and met more people in the past few years than I have in my whole life. They are the ones, my St. Luke family, that help keep me on the narrow path with their insight, holiness and experience in the faith. With them, their support makes the journey much easier and so much more joyful. Stewardship is open to everyone, so I invite each one of you to think and pray about becoming more involved here at St. Luke. Not only because it is what Jesus wants from all of us, but if you feel disconnected like I did, try sharing some of the gi s that God so graciously provided you. ]There are so many ac vi es and ministries to choose from and I guarantee any one of them would welcome you with a warm, loving embrace. Don’t worry if you are like me and think you don’t have any me or talents. All that is required is a love for Jesus and a desire to share your gifts - God will take care of all the rest. Sincerely Yours...Brian Morse, Parishioner |
